Membership of ASCTS is governed by the Constitution, which can be viewed here. An application for membership can be downloaded by clicking here. (MS Word format).
Please provide your postal address to the office and a recent issue of Heart, Lung & Circulation will be forwarded to you.
As indicated on the application form, you will need to forward a copy of your CV and a cheque as part of the application process.
The costs for the various categories of membership are detailed on the application form. On receipt of your application form and you are deemed eligible for membership, your application will be tabled for Council recommendation and approval at the next AGM. In the meantime your name will be entered on our membership database so you can begin receiving Heart Lung and Ciruclation Journal.
Membership of the ASCTS entitles you to receive copies of Heart Lung and Circulation Journal and notices of Australian meetings. The ASCTS is the only Society that specifically represents the interests of cardiac and thoracic surgeons in this region. It has affiliations with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia (ATCVSA). The ASCTS’ academic and political strength and its significance emanates from its Membership. As noted in the ASCTS Constitution, the ASCTS’ role is to promote and represent the professional development and interests of cardiac and thoracic surgeons. It also provides a forum for the presentation of scientific and clinical subjects in cardiac and thoracic surgery. In addition, the ASCTS comprises of a Board of Studies of Cardiothoracic Surgery and a Science and Education Committee. These committees are responsible for the maintenance of educational standards for cardiothoracic surgeons in training.
